Bereavements

Practical steps to take when someone dies

We are sorry for your loss. If you need to notify us about the death of one of our customers, please contact us using the details below so that we can provide help and support through the next steps.

Please remember, if this is regarding a joint life loan where it is the first borrower that has passed away, the loan is not required to be repaid at this stage. We just ask that you inform us for our records. You can do this by calling us on 0330 053 7540, or by emailing us at bereavements@rivertonhomefinance.co.uk.

Here is an overview of what to expect once you get in touch with us:

  • The first step you will need to take is to notify us of the death. We will ask you for some information about the account:

    • original or certified copy of the death certificate

    • proof of identification of the person(s) dealing with the Estate (passport or driving license).

  • If you are associated with the Estate, for example a Power of Attorney, next of kin, or Executor, please let us know. This will enable you to manage the account.

  • If you are contacting us about the death of the last customer on the account, we will discuss the plans for repaying the loan with you, whilst considering your individual circumstances.

  • Throughout this time, we will ask that you keep us up to date with these plans (including details of any solicitors and timescales for obtaining probate).

  • We will provide support through the process, including any additional information or documents we require.

We understand that grief can often feel overwhelming so it is important you get support during this difficult time. Below we have provided the details of some organisations who can give you additional support, as well as our bereavement guide which you can download by clicking the link below.
